Brainstorm/Fun Facts:  Reviewed what they learned about pants.  The children told us what they know about protecting themselves.  Discussed:  What should you wear when you ride a bike to keep safe?

Shapes:  Discussed:  What parts of your body should you protect when you are riding a bike?  Explained that elbow and knee-pads will help protect our body if you fall off or crash when you are on a bike, skateboard or roller blades.  We looked at the puzzle pieces and worked together to put it together.  They discussed the picture.

Gross Motor:  Discussed:  Do you think there is any safety gear that can help protect our mouth? Did you know that many people who play sports wear a mouthpiece to keep their teeth safe?  Can you think of other ways to protect your face?  Encouraged children to open and close their jaws as if chomping food.  Pretended their arms are big jaws and used them to chomp.  They listened to the CD and moved to the music while chomping their arms.

Visual Art:  Discussed:  What can you do to protect things that aren’t on your body?  Explained that some people protect their property, pets, or belongings by building a fence.  The children sorted the shapes into two piles by color.  They planned how to build a protective area around the circles by using  blocks.   We had two groups build a protective area around the blocks and discussed each.

Visual Art:  Discussed:  Why do you think it is important to wear a helmet?  Explained that your brain is located inside your head and is protected by your skull.  Your skull can break if hit hard.  A helmet protects your brain and skull.  They looked at how to make sculptures out of noodles by dipping the end in water and sticking to another noodle.  They made brains in their cups.

Afternoon Centers: Center 1: They made their own brain sculptures in a souffle cup.  They wet the ends of the packing noodles and stuck them together.
