Calendar: Discussed calendar in English and Spanish. We added the number to the calendar, discussed the weather and found the day of the week in Spanish.  We reviewed our Spanish and Sign language words.  We said the days of the week and months of the year in English and Spanish.

Brainstorm/Fun Facts:  Reviewed what they learned about the sun.  Today the children told me what they know about Wind.  Discussed:  How does the wind feel?  When does it feel gentle?  When does it feel harsh?  Fun Facts:  A big layer of air called the atmosphere surrounds the Earth.  The air within this layer moves from place to place when it warms up or cools down.  This moving air is known as wind.  Winds move moisture and heat around the world and also produce much of our weather.  The air can move very quickly and become a gale or hurricane, blowing down trees and damaging cars and buildings.

Emergent Reading:  Discussed:  Have you ever had the wind blow anything out of your hand?  We looked at new sight words:  he, in, has.  I wrote each one on the wipe off board and we discussed the letters and the sounds.  Each child practiced reading  each word and using each word in a sentence.  We then looked at their “I Can Read” book.  We read the book together.  Each child came up one at a time and found the sight words in the sentences.

Patterns:  Discussed:  What have you seen blow in the wind?  We  made a list of items on the wipe off board.  We looked at the Pattern cards.  The pattern was hat, leaf, kite, pinwheel..  The children continued the pattern by adding the correct pattern cards.  This was a hard pattern for some of them.

Social Skills:  Discussed:  What do you think it means to be brave?  Explained that brave means that you do something even if you feel scared.  Each child shared a time that they were scared and what they did to feel better.  I gave each child a brave feather.

Emergent Reading:  Discussed:  Have you ever flown a kite?  What happens when the wind is strong?  We looked at the flower tops with the letter “Uu”.  Discussed the sound that U makes.  We then looked in the dictionary to find all the U words.  Show and Tell-Each child brought in an item that started with the letter U.  They came up one at a time to tell me what they brought and why they brought it.   They also got to describe their items.  We had a lot of umbrella’s today.

Afternoon Centers: Center 1: Outside Play  Center 2: I can Read Book-  They will go through and underline their sight words.  They will then color their books.
