Nov 28, 2011   //   by Miss Kim   //   Daily Lessons  //  No Comments

Calendar: Discussed calendar in English and Spanish. Gretchen is the new calendar and weather girl for this week.  Gretchen put all the numbers on the calendar, discussed the weather and found the day of the week in Spanish.  We reviewed our Spanish words.

Brainstorm/Fun Facts:  Reviewed what they learned about Hibernation and Migration.  The children told me what they know about daylight and how the seasons affect it.  Explained that summer brings longer daylight hours due to how close that part of the Earth is to the sun.  Fun Facts:  Daytime is the period of time each day when daylight occurs.  Day-lighting is lighting an indoor space with openings such as windows and skylights that allow daylight into the building.

Health and Safety:Discussed:  What is your favorite food for dinner?  Explained that in the summer many people eat dinner while the sun is still out, but in the winter the sun is usually gone before dinner.  We worked together to discuss what type of vegetables we could put into soup.  We made a beef stew together.  We added potatoes, carrots, celery, corn, peas, beef and onion soup seasoning.  We had to put it in the crock-pot and  let it cook all day before it would be ready to eat.  We will try it tomorrow when it is ready.

Learning Approach:  Discussed:  What is your favorite thing to do in the day? Is there something you like to do in the dark night?  We had the Brain Box that each child got to come up and roll one at a time.  They did the directions on the side that landed up.  We discussed how we can do these activities at day or night.  Brain box directions:  Growl like a bear that just woke up; Twirl around 5 times; Make a rectangle with a partner;  Stomp your feet 6 times; Jump to something yellow in the room; Fly to something orange in the room.

Patterns:  Discussed:  What happens to the light when it is getting late in the day?  Explained that as the night begins to come into sight it gets darker.  We looked at the lightest and darkest scene and discussed.  The children helped me put the 4 scenes in order from lightest to darkest.

Learning Approach:   Discussed:  Why do we need light?  Explained that the daylight makes it easier for us to see and gives us some warmth from the sun.  We reviewed all the little learning cards and discussed each:  6, Rectangle, Tt, Yellow, Orange, Ww, Uu, 5.  We then turned the lights out and I had one child come up at a time.  I told them to find a certain card with the Flashlight!  They had fun with this.

Crazy Hair Day: The children were to come to school with Crazy Hair.  We counted how many children had crazy hair and how many did not. We compared and discussed more and less.  We looked at the different cool Crazy Hair styles and discussed.

Afternoon Centers: Center 1:  Little Learning Cards-  The children will color and cut them out. Center 2: Lacing Cards and Library books
