Mar 27, 2012   //   by Miss Kim   //   Daily Lessons  //  No Comments

Calendar: Discussed calendar in English and Spanish.  Andrew put the number on the calendar, discussed the pattern and the weather.  He found the day of the week in Spanish and reviewed our Spanish and Sign Language words.

Brainstorm/Fun Facts: We reviewed what we learned about Potatoes.  Today the children told me all that they know about beans.  Fun Facts:  Bean plants are among some of the fastest growing plants in the world.  These plants grow and mature at a faster pace.  In fact, it takes roughly a month and a half for these plants to germinate from seeds, grow and get harvested.

Health and Safety:  Discussed:  Which vegetable do you want to put in a soup?  We made our own vegetable soup today.  We added carrots, peas, celery, onion, potatoes, and green beans into a pot.  I then added chicken broth and salt and pepper.  We cooked this and ate some of it with our lunches.  We discussed the different variations we could have for our soup.

Emergent Writing:  Discussed:  What would you grow in your garden? We looked at the Postcard that they will be making in afternoon centers.  We read the note on the card that Miss Corrie wrote to us and looked at her picture.

Learning Approach:   Discussed:  What do you like to do by yourself?  What do you prefer to do in a group?  Each child came up one at a time and rolled the Brain Box.  Whatever side landed up, the child did that activity.  Brain Box activities:  hop 14 times, buzz 15 times, make a diamond with  your friend, find something brown in the room, wiggle 16 times, and walk to something orange in the room.

Patterns:   Discussed:  How long is a green bean?  Most green beans are several inches long, like long fingers.  We had several different sizes of paper green beans and some of them were thick and some were thin.  We compared two at a time and discussed which was the thickest and thinnest.  After we compared several , we took all the green beans and put them in order from Longest to shortest.

Show and Tell:  The children each brought in beans.  They came up one at time and showed us the beans that they brought and we discussed.

Afternoon Centers: Center 1: Outside Play  Center 2: Postcard-  The children drew a picture of what they would plant in their garden.  They then wrote a letter to a family member. Center 3:  Spring Chick Art-  The children will paint a paper plate yellow.  They will then cut out feet and a beak to glue onto the plate.  They will stick on eyes and a feather to create their baby chick.
