Thursday: Say Sorry

Calendar:  Discussed calendar in English and Spanish.  Samuel put the number on the calendar and discussed the weather. He found the day of the week and month of the year in Spanish.  He reviewed his colors: purple, blue; shape: circle; Spanish words: hello, happy, sad; and Sign Language words: yes, no, play.  We sang our morning songs.

Creative Development:  Discussed:  What do you do when you hurt someone’s feelings?  It is important to say sorry.  If you hurt someone’s feelings, how might their face look?  We took turns showing our sad, angry and worried faces.  Discussed how their face would change if we said, “Sorry”.  We looked at the Feelings Mirror that they will be making in afternoon centers.

Mathematics and Reasoning:  Discussed:  Why do you think we have rules?  What rules should we have when we do school time?  We looked at the hands-on number 2. Each child came up one at a time and traced the 2 with their fingers and then took 2 foam shapes.  When they were all done, I had each child show me their two foam shapes while they counted them. Some of the children noticed that they didn’t have 2 so we had to fix that.  Each child then told me 2 rules that were important to them.

Language and Literacy: Discussed:  What should you say if you don’t follow the rules?  We looked at the hands-on letter K.  We discussed the sound it makes.  We talked about words that start with K: kick, Kade, Kelly, etc..  Explained that the rule is to sit still if you are angry. Do not Kick.  We sat in  a circle and passed the K around while we counted to 10.  Whoever was holding the K when we got to 10,  pretended to Kick and they then said sorry.  We continued playing until each child got a turn to kick and say sorry.

Social Emotional Development:   Discussed:  What if someone says, “I’m sorry” to you?  What do you do?  We told stories about times we were hurt and told “sorry”.  Explained that when someone says sorry, we can forgive them and say, “It’s okay.”  Each child wrote “OK” on a piece of paper and we noticed the letter “K” in it.

Cade’s Birthday:  Each child brought in a homemade birthday card for Cade!!!  Cade sat on my lap and we got to read all his birthday cards and look at the pictures.  We ate birthday cake after lunch.

Afternoon Centers:  Center 1: Outside play Center 2: I Can Count project- The children will practice their cutting skills by cutting out the counting pieces.   Center 3: Feelings Mirror-  The children will glue the mirror on the paper and decorate the paper.  They will then attach the emotion faces wheel to the back of the paper with a brass fastener.  They can make faces in the mirror to match the emotions on the wheel.
