Calendar:  Discussed calendar in English and Spanish.  Lucas is the new calendar and meteorologist for this week.  Each child got new jobs for the week. We sang our morning songs.  Lucas came up and told us the weather and put the numbers on the calendar.  He told us the colors: purple, blue;  “circle” shape, Spanish words: hello, sad, happy and the Sign language words: yes, no, play.

Creative Development:  Discussed:  How can you talk without using words? Explained that we can talk with our body language and the way we look.  How does a cat talk to you?  Cats communicate with their tails.  We looked at the cat that they will be making in afternoon centers and discussed the cat parts.  We looked at the cat feeling cards to discuss how the tail would look depending on the cats mood.

Mathematics and Reasoning:  Discussed:  How do animals show feelings?  We looked at the animal matching cards. We played the matching game.  We sat in a circle and each child took turns turning over 2 cards to see if they had 2 matching cards.  They had to tell us the animals that they saw.  We played until we found all the matches.

Lanugage and Literacy:  Discussed:  How can animals show that they feel scared?  Some animals communicate they are scared with screeching sounds, scents, standing tall or pretending to be dead.  We looked at our journal pages and found the page with the number 2 on it. I showed the children how to form the number 2.  I then drew two scared animals on the page.  Each child came up one at a time and practiced writing the number 2.

Science: Discussed:  If you have a pet, how does it let you know that it is hungry?  I had 3 bowls and 3 animals.  I chose 3 children to have an animal and pretend it is hungry and do something to show me it is hungry then I would fill up its bowl so they could eat.  We did this a couple times so each child had a turn to pretend to be the hungry puppy.

Afternoon Centers:  Center 1: Outside play Center 2:  Cat art-  The children will color and cut out their cat pieces. They will stuff a brown bag for the body of the cat.  They will then assemble the cat parts and cut out their cat feeling cards.  Center 3:  My Little Journal-  The children will practice writing their number 2. They will then draw 2 scared animals on their journal page.
