Wednesday: Mail

Sep 26, 2012   //   by Miss Kim   //   Daily Lessons  //  No Comments

Calendar:  Discussed calendar in English and Spanish. Lucas discussed the weather and added the number to the calendar.  He reviewed the colors, shape, Spanish and Sign language words.  We sang our morning songs.

Language and Literacy:  Discussed:  What could you send in the mail?  What kind of things have you received in the mail?  How does a mail carrier know where to deliver the letters? An address tells the carrier where to take the letter.  An address tells us the name of the person, their house number, the street, the city and even the state.  I put the hands on letter P in an envelope and addressed it to P.  I put my address and showed the children how we do this.  We also discussed how the envelope has to have a stamp on it so that it can be mailed.  We repeated this with the K and F.

Creative Development:  Discussed: Do you know your address?  We wrote their address on a piece of paper. We discussed how the name goes first, then street address and then city, state and zip.  The children will draw a picture of their house on the paper with their address in afternoon centers.

Language and Literacy:  Discussed:  What could you use to carry a lot of mail?  I had a piece of paper with each child’s name written on it and inside the paper was a word.  The children had to find their name and we read their word. They had to find people with Rhyming words to their word and sit with that group of rhyming words.  We then read the rhyme “A Tisket, A Tasket” and pulled out the rhyming words in that.

Physical Development:  Discussed:  How does a mailbox look?  We discussed different mailboxes.  I had my real mailbox that I used to use in my Kindergarten class room and the children got to see and explore that.  We then opened it and found a letter!!  Miss Kelly wrote us a letter.  We read the letter and discussed.  The children will write letters in afternoon centers to a family member.  We reviewed everything they learned for the month.

Show and Tell:  Each child brought an item that began with the letter P, K or F.  The children came up one at a time and told us about their item.  They also had to tell us what letter their item started with.

Tumble Bus Day: All the children went on the tumble bus.  Please see the form by the sign in and out form to see what activities they did on the bus.

Afternoon Centers:  Center 1:  Postcard:  The children will help write a letter to a family member. They will  tell Miss Kayla what they want to say.  They will then  color a  picture on the front of the card.  Center 2: The children drew a picture of their house on the paper with their address. Center 3: Outside play/ Little People
