Calendar: Discussed calendar in English and Spanish.  Abby put the number on the calendar and discussed the weather.  Abby found the day of the week in Spanish.  She reviewed our colors, shapes. Spanish and Sign language words.  We sang our morning songs.

Discussion: Discussed:  What do you think it means to be honest.  Honesty means you tell the truth.  When you are honest people can learn to trust you and believe  in the things you say. What do you know about branches of trees?

Creative Development: Discussed:  If you were a tree, what would you want on your branches?  We looked at the Apple hat that they will be making in afternoon centers.

Language and Literacy:  Discussed:  What can you find in this room that could help you carry many apples that fell off a branch? We got the grocery cart and golf cart and discovered that we could fill those up with apples and push them around the room.  We discussed the letter A and what sounds it makes.  We looked in the dictionary and found lots of A words.  We also put the hands-on Letter A in the grocery cart and pushed it around the room.

Physical Development: Discussed:  How do you think branches break off trees?  Branches are not actually part of a tree’s trunk.  A branch is connected to the trunk by overlapping tissue called the branch collar.  Wind, storms, insects and diseases can weaken branch collars.  We discussed how we had to wash our hands before we mess with any food.  I showed the children how to make a mini apple pie.  We added sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg to diced up apples.  We then used refrigerated biscuit dough to push into a muffin pan and make the crust.  We added the apple mixture to the biscuit and then cut the 2nd biscuit into strips to make the lattice top.  We baked it in the oven and the children will get to enjoy this treat during afternoon snack.

Show and Tell:  Each child brought in an item that begins with the letter A.  They came up one at a time and discussed their items.

Afternoon Centers: Center 1: Outside play Center 2: Apple Headband-  The children will put an A on each apple and glue them to their headband.  They will then decorate their headbands as they desire.  Center 3: My Little Journal-The children will go to the page that has a green paint brush.  They will then draw a branch on the page and tear pieces of green paper to add to it for leaves.
