Monday: Check Up

Feb 25, 2013   //   by Miss Kim   //   Daily Lessons  //  No Comments

Calendar:  Discussed the date in English and Spanish and wrote it in number form.  Gretchen is the new calendar and meteorologist for this week.  She added all the numbers to the calendar, discussed the weather and discussed the pattern.  She found the day of the week in Spanish.  Gretchen reviewed our colors, shapes, Sign Language and Spanish.

Brainstorm/Fun Facts:  Reviewed what we learned about being a winner.  Today the children told me everything they know about a Check Up!!  Gretchen knew right away that that meant going to the doctor.  During a check up the doctor examines many things like heart rate, breathing and vision.  When you get a check up your height and weight are recorded.  The doctor uses a stethoscope to listen to your heartbeat.

Creative Development:  Discussed:  What do you keep in a bag?  What does a doctor keep in his bag?  We looked at the Doctor Bag Art that they will be doing in afternoon centers.

Social Emotional Development:  Discussed:  What is your favorite way to stay fit?  We looked at the illustrations on the dominoes cards and discussed what they were doing to stay fit.  I put the dominoes face down and turned one over to start.  The children took turns drawing a card and if they had a matching picture they placed it next to the card matching card face up.  We played until all the cards were matched.

Science:  Discussed:  What colors are inside your mouth?  We passed a couple mirrors around to see the inside of our mouths.  Explained that our tongue, gums and tissue are pink inside our mouth.  We looked at their My little Journals and I showed them how they could draw a mouth and color it pink.

Mathematics and Reasoning;  Discussed:  Why does your heart make a pounding sound?  I had a real Stethoscope that I let each child come up one at a time and listen to their heartbeats.  They loved hearing them.  I had 3 of the children start jumping and then listen to their heart beats again.  They told us that they were beating really fast.  Explained that the heart sound comes from it pumping blood through the body.  Explained that a heartbeat has a rhythm like a drumbeat.

Afternoon Centers:   Center 1:Card Board Large Blocks  Center 2:  Doctor Bag Art-  The children will use paint to decorate their bags.  They will also add a band-aid.  They can then put cotton balls, band-aids and a tongue depressor into it.    Center 3:  Name Tags-  The children will practice writing their names.
