Thursday: Easter

Calendar:  Discussed the date in English and Spanish and wrote it in number form. We found the number for the calendar and discussed the weather.  We talked about the pattern on the calendar and found the day of the week in Spanish.  We reviewed our colors, shapes, and Sign Language words.  

Fun Facts/Brainstorming:  Reviewed what we learned about butterfly wings.  Today the children told me everything they know about Easter.  Easter celebrates the resurrection of Christ as well as arrival of spring.  The Easter bunny comes the eve before Easter and hides eggs for the kids in the garden and inside the house.  Easter has many symbols like decorated eggs, chicks, lambs and palm branches.  

Creative Development:  Discussed:  Do you see bunnies around Easter time?  We looked at the bunny headband they will be making in centers.  I had each child come up one at a time and wear the bunny headband.  They then tried to hop on one foot and then hopped on two feet. 

Mathematics and Reasoning: Discussed:  What do you know about bunnies?  I encouraged children to listen to the following clue and hold up the same number of fingers to match the answer without talking.  How many ears does a bunny have?  (2) How many tails does a bunny have? (1) How many eyes does a bunny have? (2)  How many paws does a bunny have? (4) How many noses does a bunny have? (1)  How many pieces of fur does a bunny have? (too many for our fingers) ect.

Physical Development: Discussed:  What is your favorite snack? What kind of food do you think a bunny likes to eat? We discussed what we had to do before we made our Bunny Snack.  We put strawberry cream cheese on a rice cake.  We put raisins for eyes, pretzel sticks for whiskers, carrot nose and coconut mouth.  We then added long banana pieces for the ears.  Everyone got to eat up their bunnies.  

Second Language Acquisition:  Discussed:  Do you decorate eggs for Easter?  Some families decorate eggs to celebrate Easter.  We had all the children hide their eyes.  We then hid different colored eggs around the room.  Each child had to go find one egg.  They had to tell me the color of their egg when they turned them in.  We discussed how we will be doing our Easter Egg Hunt tomorrow.  

Afternoon Centers:  Center 1: Waffle Blocks and Bowling Pins and Coloring Center 2: Bunny Headband-  They children will paint their headband and add bunny faces. Center 3:  The children will get to cut out and decorate their own paper eggs.
