Tuesday: Rainy Day Fun

Apr 30, 2013   //   by Miss Kim   //   Daily Lessons  //  No Comments

Calendar:  Discussed the date in English and Spanish and wrote it in number form.  Kade put the number on the calendar, discussed the pattern, told us the weather and found the day of the week in Spanish.  He reviewed our colors, shapes and Sign Language words.

Fun Facts/Brainstorming:  The children told me everything they know about What the rain makes.

Creative Development: Discussed:  What does rain mix with to make mud?  What do you like to do with the mud?  Explained that pigs are known for playing in the mud.  We looked at some dirt and I asked children what I needed to add to make it mud!  We then added water and made some mud.  I showed the children how to use the mud to smear on the pig pattern.

Social and Emotional Development:  Discussed:  When have you seen a rainbow?  What is your favorite color from the rainbow?  Explained that when sun and rain mix, they make a rainbow.  We had a large rainbow made out of paper.  I had each child come up and pick a color of paint.  They painted a line on the paper to make a rainbow together as a class.

Mathematics and Reasoning:  Discussed:  What do you like to wear when it is raining?  We sat in a circle and I laid the matching cards face down in the middle of the circle.  Each child took turns turning two cards over and told us the pictures they saw.  They then told us if they matched or not.  If they got a match they took the cards but if they didn’t get a match they turned them back over and the next child had a turn.  We  played this matching game until all the matches were found.

Social Studies:  Discussed:  What have you seen the rain wash away? Sometimes trash gets thrown on the side of the road or dumped in yards, parks and play places where it does not belong.  You can help the earth by helping keep it clear of garbage.  I gave each child a grocery bag.  We took a long walk outside in the neighborhood picking up trash.  We then discussed how trash was dirty and that we can’t touch anything till we wash our hands.  We all came inside and looked at our trash and washed our hands.  Discussed why it is important to keep our earth clean.

Show and Tell:  The children were to bring in a Homemade Birthday card for Thomas! Thomas sat on Miss Kim’s lap and we read all his birthday cards.  We had chocolate chip cookie cake after lunch for his birthday.

Afternoon Centers:  Center 1:Outside Play   Center 2: Paint with Mud- The children had a pig pattern that they made his facial features.  They then took some mud and smeared it on the pigs body.  Center 3:  My Little Journal-The children will go to the purple page and draw a river.  They will then use the purple paper to make a purple raft and tape it to the river.
