Monday: Flowers & Blooms

Calendar:  Discussed the date in English and Spanish and wrote it in number form.  Mallory put the numbers on the calendar.  She discussed the weather and found the day of the week in Spanish.  Mallory reviewed the colors, shapes, Spanish and Sign Language words.

Fun Facts/Brainstorming:  Reviewed what we learned about pet groomers.  Today the children told me all about Flowers and Blooms.  We discussed where we found flowers.  Talked about how we would be planting the garden soon.

Social and Emotional Development:  Discussed: What is your favorite color for a flower.  We played a matching game with the cards that had flowers on them.  Each child turned 2 cards over to see if they had a match.  We played until all matches were found.

Language and Literacy: Discussed:  How does a flower grow?  We looked at the Story Sequence Cards.  We discussed each card in detail and discussed what was going on.  We then put the Story Sequence Cards in order according to what was happening.

Physical Development: Discussed:  How did you think a flower moves?  What happens when a strong wind blows?  Invited the children to squat down low and pretend to be as small as a seed.  Explained that flowers grow from seeds, like many other plants.  Discussed the type of things any plant needs to grow (sun, soil, and water).  The children pretended to be sprouts and turned into full-grown flowers.

Mathematics and Reasoning:  Discussed:  Where have you counted flowers?  We had flower pots with numbers written on each one.  We then had flowers with dots.  We had the children pick a flower and count the dots.  They then had to find the matching number on the pot.  We did this until all flowers were matched to the pots.
