May 28, 2013   //   by Miss Kim   //   Daily Lessons  //  No Comments

Calendar:  Discussed the date in English and Spanish and wrote it in number form.  Mallory put the number on the calendar, discussed the weather and found the day of the week in Spanish.  We reviewed the colors, shapes and Sign Language words

Fun Facts/Brainstorming:  Reviewed what we learned about tubs.  We discussed what a car wash is.  We also discussed how we could clean a vehicle.

Language and Literacy:  Discussed:  What is it like to ride an elevator, people mover or escalator?  Some car washes automatically move the car washes automatically move the car through the wash.  We put a blanket over the chairs to make a car wash.  We had the children go through the car wash on their hands and knees.  They had to listen carefully for the instructions:  “Go!”  As they moved through the car was, Miss Mikie shouted, “Stop!”  We alternated between stop and go as the children moved through the car wash.

Science: Discussed:  Have you blown bubbles before?  We covered the bottom of the bottle with the sock.  We added soap to the water.  Discussed how it looks different.  We dipped the sock into the soap.  Discussed how the sock’s shape changed.  We then blew through the mouth of the bottle and watched what happened to the sock.  What made the bubbles appear.

Mathematics and Reasoning:  Discussed:  How does your car get dirty?  We had a large car cut on the floor.  We shared ideas about how cars get dirty.  We then tossed the foam shapes all over the car to make it “dirty”.  We then had one child at a time come up and pick up a shape and place it on the counting card.  The children took turns cleaning off the spots until the card is filled.  We then counted the shapes on the card “20”.  We then counted how many foam shapes were left on the car.

Social Studies:  Discussed:  How much do you think it costs to get a car wash?  We wrote all the children’s estimates down on the board.  Discussed how much money it costs for the car wash and asked each child to count out the same amount of play dollars.  The children pretended to pay for a car wash and drove the car through it.

Miss Kayla’s Birthday:  The children brought cards for Miss Kayla and she read them with the children.  We also got to eat cake after lunch.

Afternoon Centers:  Center 1:Outside play Center 2: Play Money Project- The children cut the money and car wash parts out.  They then folded and taped the stand of the car wash.  They also had a paper car that they could drive through the car wash.
