May 28, 2013   //   by Miss Kim   //   Daily Lessons  //  No Comments

Calendar:  Discussed the date in English and Spanish and wrote it in number form. Mallory put the number on the calendar and discussed the weather.  She found the day of the week in Spanish.  Mallory reviewed the colors, shapes and Sign Language words.

Fun Facts/Brainstorming:  Reviewed what we learned about car washes.  Today the children told everything they know about Laundry.  Discussed what we did with dirty clothes.

Language and Literacy:  Discussed:  Where do you dry your clothes?  Some people put clothes in a dryer and others hang them on a line.  We looked at the Phonics tag.  The letter “Uu”.  We hung up a clothesline between two chairs.  We had the Phonic tags in the tote bag.  I invited one child to pull out one of the tags.  If the child pulled out the “underwear” tag, I asked him/her to hang a piece of clothing on the line.  If he/she pulls out the “umbrella” tag, then he/she would take a piece of clothing off of the line.  We played this game until all the clothes are on the line.

Creative Development: Discussed:  How do your clothes get dirty?  We looked at the paper shirt they will be making dirty in afternoon centers.  Discussed what can make the stains. For example, yellow could be mustard, or green could be grass.  We pretended to wash the shirts by flipping it over on the white side and hanging it on the clothesline.

Mathematics and Reasoning:  We wrote the numerals from 0-20 on paper plates.  We spread the plates on the floor numeral side down.  I had one child come up and turn a plate over.  They then had to add the same amount of clothespins onto the plate.  If the child turns over a 0, 2, or 20.  I gave them the matching Hands-on number and invited him/her to go again.

Social and Emotional Development:  Discussed:  Where do you put your dirty laundry?  We looked at the laundry basket and experimented with different ways to push or roll the basket.  Had the child guess which line he/she could move the basket beyond with one big push.  We then added weight to the basket to see if they could push the basket as far.

Afternoon Centers:  Center 1:Outside Play Center 2: Laundry Art- The children used markers to decorate the front and back of the Shirt to make them look the same.  We then used paint to make “stains” on one side of the shirt.    Center 3:  Painting with dishes- The children used forks to dip into paint and paint on paper.
