Tuesday: Making Friends

Calendar:  Discussed the date in English and Spanish and wrote it in number form. We did the calendar together.  Added the number to the calendar, discussed the pattern and discussed the weather.  Found the day of the week in Spanish.  Reviewed our color (green), shape (circle), Sign Language (more), Spanish words for dog, grandma, school, boy.  

Fun Facts/Brainstorming:  Reviewed what we learned yesterday about being mad.  Today the children told me who their friend is.  

Social and Emotional Development: Discussed:  How do you show your friend that you care about her?  We learned the Sign for Friend.  The children held up their index fingers on both hands and pretended they are friends.  Explained that many friends hug each other.  They connected their fingers as if they are giving each other a hug.  We helped each child make thier index fingers hug.  We practiced this sign several times.  

Creative Development:  Discussed:  How do you look similar to your friends?  How do you look different?  We looked at the Friend craft they will be doing in afternoon centers.

Language and Literacy:  Discussed:  What games do you play with your friends?  We all sat in a circle and played “Duck,Duck, Goose”.  We used the yellow wand to tap the children’s heads.  The children would say “Yellow, Yellow, Sun” instead of the original version. When we tapped a head and said “sun” then they chased each other around the circle.  We played this until all the children had a turn.  

Mathematics and Reasoning:  Discussed:  When have you shared your toys?  We looked at each Story Sequence Card and discussed what was happening on each card.  We then put the Story Sequence Cards in order.  I then had Thomas and Jonathon act out the story.  

Show and Tell:  The children all brought in a yellow stuffed animal.  I had them come up one at a time to show their stuffed animals and discuss why they brought it.  We also found all the yellow on the stuffed animal.  

Afternoon Centers:  Center 1: Outside play  Center 2: Colorful Friends Art-They used yarn to glue on for the hair.  They then decorated their people patterns as their friends. They had them hold hands by putting a brass fastener in their hands.  Center 3:  Mailbox Art-the children drew a picture of someone that they know and they then colored the mailbox pattern.  They worked on assembling the mailbox by adding the flag with a brass fastener and taping the mailbox.  They added the picture to the mailbox to pretend to send and receive  mail.
