Calendar:  Discussed the date in English and Spanish and wrote it in number form.

Fun Facts/Brainstorming:  Reviewed what the children learned about School Friends.  Today the children discussed their neighbors and who lives near them.

Physical Development:   Discussed: Who lives in the home next to your home?   We looked at the Hands-on Letter Aa.  Discussed the sounds that A makes.  The children told me all the words that they could think of that start with the letter A.  We then looked in the dictionary to find more A words.

Language and Literacy:  Discussed: What animals are in your neighborhood?  Explained that bugs can be found everywhere.  I showed the children how to make the capital and lowercase letter Aa on the wipe off board.  Each child came up one at a time to write the capital and lowercase letters on the board.  We discussed how Ant starts with A.  We looked at their My Little Journals and discussed how we will be practicing writing our letters and then drawing an ant hill.

Creative Development: Discussed:  What can you do for a neighbor who is sick or in need?  We discussed all their ideas.  We talked about making a card.  The children will be using fabric bags this afternoon to keep their cards and money in.

Social and Emotional Development:  Discussed: What kinds of events happen in your neighborhood?  Explained that many people have yard sales at their homes.  During a yard sale, a person sells items that he no longer needs or wants.  We had some items for sale.  The children had to tell what the item is and then tell how much it costs.  I then had them come up one at a time and buy the items by counting out that many dollars.

Social Studies:  Discussed: What can you see on a map?  We looked at the World Map and explained that all the blue areas on the map are water and the other colors are land.  We found the United States on the map and looked at our flag. Discussed how all the country’s have different looking flags.  We named some of the states in the United States of America. We found where Indiana is located on the World Map.

Show and Tell:  The children brought something in that begins with the letter A.  Each child came up one at a time to tell us about their item and discuss how it starts with the letter A.

Afternoon Centers:  Center 1: Outside play Center 2: My Little Journal-The children will practice writing the capital and lowercase Aa. They will then draw one large A on the page as the ant hill.  The kids will dip their finger in the ink and make ants going up and down the hill.  They will then add legs to the ants.  Center 3:  Neighbor Art- The children will decorate a fabric bag and then use it to store their money and greeting cards.
