Calendar:  Discussed the date in English and Spanish and wrote it in number form.  The children told me what number to put on the calendar.  We discussed the pattern, weather and found the day of the week in Spanish.  Reviewed our Spanish, Sign Language, colors and shapes.

Fun Facts/Brainstorming:  Reviewed what the children learned yesterday about neighbors.  Today the children learned about Pen Pals.  They were not sure what that was so we discussed.  We discussed who has sent the children mail before.

Creative Development:  Discussed:  Where is your mailbox?  We looked at the mailboxes that the children made in the afternoon centers.  We discussed how to use the mailbox flag and stuff.  The children then watched the mailman deliver our mail.  We all went out together to get the mail.  We then looked at the mail to see who it was for and what it was.

Language and Literacy:  Discussed: Where could you send a letter?   We looked at the World Map and explained that mail goes all over the world.  I had each child come up one at a time and take the A pointer.  They then closed their eyes and pointed the pointer at somewhere on the map.  When they opened their eyes they showed us the A’s that they were near.  We then read all the words and noticed that we could find A’s all over the world.

Mathematics and Reasoning: Discussed: Have you ever received mail from someone? We had one container that had the word “yes” and one container with the word “no”.  The children read the words.  I then held up an item and choose one child to tell me if it was something they could mail or not?  They came up and put it in the yes container if they could mail it and put it in the no container if they could not mail it.  We had toys, letters, grass, leaves, pine needles, and more.

Physical Development: Discussed: Where does fruit come from?  Explained that some fruit that we eat  is shipped in the mail.  We discussed the fruits we ship or can find here.  We discussed the food groups and found where the apple goes on our food group plate.
