Monday: Keeping Friends

Sep 23, 2013   //   by Miss Kim   //   Daily Lessons  //  No Comments

Calendar:  Discussed the date in English and Spanish and wrote it in number form.  Lucas is the new calendar boy for this week.  He found the numbers for the calendar and put all 3 of them on.  He discussed the weather and found the day of the week in Spanish.  He reviewed our colors, shapes, Spanish and Sign Language words.

Fun Facts/Brainstorming:  Reviewed what we learned about Pen Pals.   Today the children told me how they could be a good friend.

Mathematics and Reasoning:   Discussed:  How can you be kind to your friend when you are playing a game?  We played a folder game together.  We had the children work together to deliver the letters to the correct house.  The children would draw a card and tell us the color and number on the letter.  If they didn’t know it their friends would help them.  They then drove the letter down the windy road to get the the matching house. We clapped for everyone after they delivered the mail.

Social and Emotional Development:  Discussed:  How do you help keep your friends healthy when you are sick?  Explained that it is important to wash hands to keep germs away from your friends. I put some glitter on my hand to represent germs.  I had one child come up and shake  my hand.  I then shook everyone else’s hands.   The children kept noticing that the germs from my hand were getting on their hands.  We talked about when we touch things or other people we will get germs from them.  We have to wash our hands to clean the germs off.  Explained that germs spread fast when hands are not washed.  We all went to the bathroom and washed our hands with soap and water and watched the germs disappear.

Social Studies:  Discussed:  How many friends would you invite to a party?  Explained that during many holiday celebrations around the world, there are parades where the country flag is carried and proudly displayed.  Many people participate in parades.  We looked at the flag they will be making in afternoon centers.

Language and Literacy:  Discussed:  What could you give a friend to show you care? Explained that all you need to give a friend is your time.  It is nice to just go for a walk, play together outside, or do something you both enjoy.  We looked at the My Little Journals and discussed how we can draw a picture of us playing with our friend outside.  I took the children on a walk to find yellow and green things in nature.  They will glue these onto the yellow page in the Journals in afternoon centers.

Afternoon Centers:  Center 1: Outside play Center 2: My Little Journal- The children will draw a picture of them playing with a friend on the yellow page. They will then glue on yellow and green nature objects to show that they are outside.    Center 3:  Flag Art- The children will make their own flag.  They are going to cut out strips of red paper and glue to the flag pattern.  They will then use paint to dip their fingers in and make the stars.
