Tuesday: Dog

Calendar:  Discussed the date in English and Spanish and wrote it in number form.   Lucas put the number on the calendar, discussed the weather and found the day of the week in Spanish.  He reviewed the colors, shapes, Spanish and Sign Language words.  

Fun Facts/Brainstorming:  Reviewed what the children learned about keeping friends. Today the children told us what they know about dogs?  Discussed: How do dogs show their feelings?

Mathematics and Reasoning: Discussed:  How do you take care of a pet?  Explained  that when your family has a pet, everyone has to work together to take care of it.  We looked at the puzzle pieces and I choose a child to come up and find the piece that fit with my piece.  I then picked children sitting the best to come up one at a time and find a piece of the puzzle and fit it to the other pieces.  Once the puzzle was put together, we looked at the picture that it made and discussed.

Creative Development: Discussed: How would you feel if your puppy was lost? We looked at the craft they will be making in afternoon centers.  We used the puppy shaker as a lost puppy. I had the children hide their eyes and I hid the puppy!  The children had to help me find my lost puppy.  We did this several times because the children loved helping me find my lost puppy. 

Language and Literacy :   Discussed: What tricks can a dog do?   We read the script to the children.  We then picked 3 children to come up and be part of the story.  We read the script again and acted out the story.

Physical Development:  Discussed: How do you care for a dog?  Explained that dogs not only need food and water, but they also need love, exercise and chew toys.  Many people give dogs bones to chew on.  We looked at the Hands-on letter T.  The children told me what letter it was.  We then discussed words that begin with T.  We looked at the My Little Journal T page and the children will be practicing their T.  Each child came up one at a time to practice writing the Capital and Lowercase Tt.  

Show and Tell:  The children all brought in an item that begins with the letter T.  They came up one at a time to show their item, tell us about it and discuss why they brought it.  

Afternoon Centers:  Center 1:Outside Play Center 2: Puppy Shaker-The children will be using markers to decorate the cardboard tube.  They will then add ears and a face to the puppy. They can then hide their puppy or make music with their puppy.    Center 3:  My Little Journal- The children will practice making their capital and lowercase Tt’s.  They will then draw a puppy on the page and make a giant T bone for it to eat.
