Calendar:  Discussed the date in English and Spanish and wrote it in number form.  Lily put the number on the calendar, discussed the weather and pattern.  We reviewed the colors, shapes, Spanish, Sign Language, and sight words. 

Fun Facts/Brainstorming: We reviewed what the children learend about tractors.  Today the children discussed what they know about wheat.  Fun facts:  Wheat is grown all over the world in many different countries.  Wheat is used for making cookies, breads, cereals, pastas, and crackers.  Wheat provides more nourishment for people than any other food source.  It is a member of the grass family that produces a dry one-seeded fruit called a kernel.  Wheat was first planted in the United States in 1777 as a hobby crop.

Language and Literacy:  Discussed: How have you helped in the kitchen?  We looked at the story pieces and each child got one.  We read the participation story, “Gwen the Red Hen”.  While we read the children would listen for their character and hold it up when we read that in the story.  After reading we asked questions for comprehension. 

Mathematics and Reasoning:  Discussed: What is your favorite animal noise?  We looked at the matching cards and discussed if they were animals or not animals.  We sorted them into two piles.  The children then pretended to be one of the animals that they picked from the cards.  They would make the sound of that animal and graze in the fields. The children would go around trying to find another child that is making the same sound they were.

Physical Development:  Discussed: What do you put butter on?  Explained that some dairy products are made when you mix, stir and shake.  The children got up and twirled around to pretend to be stirred milk.  They then jumped up and down to be a milkshake.  We thought of other ways to mix, stir and shake and invented other movements to represent each.  We then made butter.  We used heavy whipping cream and put it in a container.  The children had to keep shaking it while we finished lessons and it turned into butter.  We then got to try the butter on crackers.

Creative Development: Discussed: What ingredients are in bread? The children counted the stalks of wheat on the bread and wheat sheet.  We showed them this craft for afternoon centers.

Science:  Discussed: What color is a hen’s comb?  The children went and touched something in the room the same color as the hen’s comb (red).  We looked in their My Little Journal’s at the red page.  Miss Peyton picked a child to come up so that she could trace one of their hands.  She then turned that into the Hen’s head. Their hand is the comb on the hen.

Afternoon Centers:  Center 1:Outside Play  Center 2: My Little Journal- The children went to the red page and traced one of their hands. They colored it red.  They then put a circle under that to make the head of the Hen and added a beak. They then glued on grass or flour to feed the hen.  Center 3:  Wheat Bread Art-  The children cut the wheat for the bread and glued it on the bread picture.  They then glued on glitter to pretend it was whole grains.
