Nov 12, 2013   //   by Miss Kim   //   Daily Lessons  //  No Comments

Calendar:  Discussed the date in English and Spanish and wrote it in number form.  Thomas told us the pattern on the calendar, put the numbers on the calendar and discussed the weather.  He found the day of the week in Spanish.  Thomas reviewed our colors, shapes, Spanish, Sign Language,  and Sight words.

Fun Facts/Brainstorming:  Reviewed what we learned about Bus Drivers.  Today the children told me everything they know about a teacher.  Discussed:  Who helps you learn things?  Fun facts:  During an average school day, teachers are spending an average of almost 5 hours on instruction a day.  More than half of Indonesia’s primary school teachers are under 30 years of age.

Language and Literacy: Discussed: Who helps you learn your alphabet?  We looked at the Hands-on Letter Z.  Discussed the sound of this letter and words that begin with this letter.  We made zigzags with our hands.  We looked at the letter Z and noticed how it looks like a zigzag line. We discussed why it was important to learn our letters.  Discussed how words are made up of letters and things that we would need to read to help us in life.

Social and Emotional Development: Discussed: What rules would you have if you were a teacher? Explained that a teacher uses rules to keep children safe and happy.  Discussed what it means to be respectful.  (Respect means you use your actions and words to show another person that you see him as valuable and important.)  We discussed ways the children could be respectful or are disrespectful.  Discussed why it is so important to respect our parents and why rules are so important and how they keep us safe.

Mathematics and Reasoning:  Discussed: What can you teach others to do?  We looked at the hands-on number 1 and 3.  We discussed each number.  The children then taught me how to make a 13 with these two numbers.   We counted to 13 in English and Spanish.  We counted the 13 stars.  We then did exercises to 13.  Jump 13 times, touch our toes 13 times, spank our bottoms 13 times, etc.

Social Studies:  Discussed: What do you want to be when you grow up? Explained that no matter what you want to do or be when you grow up a teacher helps you learn what you need to get there.  We learned 3 new sight words: you, can, to.  I passed out the characters to each child that would be read about in the I Can Read book.  When we read about that character, the child that had the picture would hold it up and help read that page.   We read the book together because the children helped read all the new sight words in the book.

Show and Tell:  The children were to bring 13 items, a birthday card for Miss Kim and Maggie!  The children came up one at a time to count out their 13 items.  We discussed if they needed more or less objects.  Miss Kim read all her birthday cards and loved them all.  Maggie will get to read hers tomorrow because she was not here today.

Afternoon Centers:  Center 1:Bowling Pins and Waffle Blocks Center 2: I Can Read Book- The children will go through and underline or circle the sight words.  They can also color the book.
