Calendar:  Discussed the date in English and Spanish and wrote it in number form.  Samuel put the number on the calendar and discussed the pattern.  He told us the weather and found the day of the week in Spanish. Samuel reviewed the colors, shapes, Spanish, Sign Language and Sight words.

Fun Facts/Brainstorming:  Reviewed what the children learned about shopkeepers.  Today the children told me everything they know about Musicians.  Discussed what kind of music do you like.  Fun facts:  A musician is a person who composes and/or performs music, usually as an occupation but often as a hobby.  He or she may play a musical instrument or several musical instruments like drums, piano, guitar, violin or he or she may be a vocalist instead.

Creative Development: Discussed: What have you blown into to make music?  Instruments known as woodwinds make sounds when they are blown into.  Some examples are horns, flutes and pipes.  We looked at the Musical notes that the children did in centers this week.  Discussed how they blew through a straw to blow the paint around on the Music Note.  We looked at everyone’s art!

Language and Literacy:  Discussed: What sounds do you hear around the room? Outside? The children made different sounds using their bodies or toys in the room.  I then read the title to the Little Theatre Script, “Musical Soup”.  The children predicted what they thought the story would be about.  We read the story acting it out as we read. I had a pot to beat on, water in a bottle, beans in a plate.  We discussed what a Chef is and what a masterpiece is.  The children all got to play the musical soup after we read the story.  They had fun!  They had to beat the pot, rub hands together to sound like they were making a fire, shake the water bottle and shake the plate with the beans inside. They all made music.

Mathematics and Reasoning:  Discussed: What is your special talent or what do you like to do best?  The children told me about all their talents. Each child then came up to fill in the Design Mat.  They had to place the correct size of  star in the blank shape area on the mat.

Physical Development:Discussed: Do you like slow or fast music? Why?  We looked at the keyboard that the children cut out the notes for.  I had each child come up one at a time to play the piano.  I placed out several notes and they had to find the matching key on the piano and play that only those keys that matched the colored notes.
