Calendar:  Discussed the date in English and Spanish and wrote it in number form.  Lucas is the calendar and meteorologist for this week.  He was not here yet so we did the calendar together.  The children put the numbers on the calendar and discussed the pattern.  They found the day of the week in Spanish.  We reviewed our colors, shapes, Spanish, Sign Language and Sight words.

Fun Facts/Brainstorming:  Reviewed what we learned about Musicians.  Today the children told me what they know about an actor.  They did not know what an actor was until we explained it. Discussed: Who they like to pretend to be?  Fun facts:  An actor is a person whose profession is acting on the stage, in movies or on television.  Actors and actresses normally have to audition to receive the role they want to act as.  Some actors and actresses have to be able to sit in a chair for up to 4 hours or more to get their makeup done to make them look like the characters they’re acting as.  Actors must be in good physical shape as many parts require the ability to move quickly and specifically under a lot of pressure, often enduring heat from stage or studio lights and weight of heavy costumes.

Science: Discussed: Where have you seen bright lights?  We used a flashlight to sign on a child to watch them dance and perform like an actor.  Predicted if objects would look different in the spotlight.  We had a shoe box with holes in it.  We placed an object in the box.  The children took turns shining the flashlight over the different holes until they  lit up the object.  They observed how the object looks in a spotlight.

Mathematics and Reasoning: Discussed:If you could pretend to be anyone who would that be?  We looked at the Charades cards and named the community helper.  I placed them face down and picked one child to come up and pick a card.  They could not show the card to their friends.  They then acted like that person on the card and the children had to guess by his/her actions which community helper it was.

Language and Literacy: Discussed: How do you get to the places you want to go?  We looked at the /ar/ word family.  Wrote /ar/ on the board and discussed what would happen if we added different letters to the beginning of “ar”.  The children read all the new words that we made.  Words:  jar, par, bar, car, far, etc.  We also added an “s” to the end of the /ar/ to make the words plural and discussed.

Creative Development: Discussed: Who would you pretend to be that wears a crown? We looked at the crowns they will be making in afternoon centers.

Afternoon Centers:  Center 1:Wooden Blocks Center 2: Crown Art- the children will decorate the crown.  They will then glue the jewels on the crown.
